Zvenigorod - an ancient town in Mocow Land - is famous for its Kremlin - Fortified Town with the white-stone Assumption Cathedral decorated with frescoes by Rev. Andrei Rublev (1396 - 1399) and for architectural complex of Savva Storozhevsky Monastery, founded in 1398 by a disciple of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh Savva. Now it houses history and art collections of the State Museum

The Monastery ensemble surrounded by the mighty fortress wall with six towers, carefully restored by the Museum in the course of fifty years, is composed of the unique white-stone Nativity Cathedral (1405) with surviving 15th century frescoes and 17th century iconostasis created by the tsar icon-painters, remarkable monuments of the 17th century civic architecture - Tsar Palace and Tsarina Chambers constructed during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich who liked to stay in the Monastery, fine baroque Transfiguration Church, unique ensemble of the Holy Passage, multi- tent Belfry on top of which one can enjoy a splendid view of the picturesque hills and the Moscow River.
